The Summer Harvest Festival isn’t just about peaches, music, and fun—it’s also an incredible opportunity for history enthusiasts to experience Hampshire County’s rich heritage up close! This year’s festival brings an impressive lineup of Civil War-themed exhibits, reenactments, and educational presentations that will transport you back in time.

Here’s what you can look forward to:


Friday, August 1st

📍 Taggart Hall

9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Born of Rebellion: West Virginia Statehood and Civil War” Exhibit

Presented by the WV Humanities Council, this fascinating display explores the pivotal moments that shaped West Virginia’s path to statehood during the Civil War.

📍 Stonewall Jackson’s Headquarters on Main Street

5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Civil War Reenactors

Walk the historic streets of Romney and meet living historians bringing Civil War stories to life.


Saturday, August 2nd

📍 Taggart Hall 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

  • “Born of Rebellion” Exhibit Continues

  • Historic Gun Display – See authentic Hampshire County-made firearms up close.

🕥 10:30 AM – Presentation by Christy Perry Tuohey: “Civil War Hospitals of the Romney Area”

🕛 12:00 PM – Dr. Warren Abbott: “Death in the Civil War & the Paranormal Aftermath”

🕜 1:30 PM – Christy Perry Tuohey returns with more on wartime hospitals

🕑 2:00 PM – Leah Myers: Confederate Women during the Civil War

🕒 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM – Author Steve French on Civil War history


📍 St. Stephens Episcopal Church

10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Enjoy a guided Church Tour and learn about this historic landmark on Main Street.

📍 Stonewall Jackson’s Headquarters

9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Civil War reenactors will be present throughout the day for an immersive experience.


Sunday, August 3rd

9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

“Born of Rebellion” Exhibit Continues

📍 St. Stephens Episcopal Church

Historic Church Tour – Take in the architectural beauty and heritage of this iconic site.

📍 Stonewall Jackson’s Headquarters

10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Reenactors return for the final day of history-rich storytelling.
